Program to Support South Asia Regional Development in Operational Forecasting and Service Delivery

In response to the need for more regional cooperation, the World Bank and World Meteorological Organization organized the South Asia Hydromet Forum in September 2018. Further, a second South Asia Hydromet Forum held in Kathmandu, Nepal in November 2019 led to a concrete agreement among the leaders of the National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) in South Asia to proceed with the implementation of a regional approach for operational cooperation. The Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System for Africa and Asia (RIMES) was tasked to implement “SAHF South Asia Regional Development in Operational Forecasting and Service Delivery”.
The webinar series is intended to build strategic thinking for the region on thematic aspects being addressed under SAHF during the period 2021-22 covering Numerical Weather Prediction, Impact Based Forecasting, Observational Networks and Capacity development. They are formatted as focused discussions led by a perspective talk by a subject expert followed by interactive Q & A Session to be conducted in a moderated fashion to bring out specific regional strategies that enhance national benefits.
